Ten diving masks in framed and frameless formats — from the Frameless Tek (36 €) and Larga NEW (34 €) as entry-level and backup options to the Shadow Frameless with bungee or silicone strap (42–46 €), the full-frame Larga (44 €) and Corona (43 €) in multiple colour variants, and the anodised aluminium frame Metal mask (50 €) as the premium technical option. All use silicone skirts and tempered glass lenses. For further recreational and specialty mask options, see SoprasSub and SoprasApnea.

Diving Masks for Technical and Professional Use
A diving mask creates the air space in front of the eyes that makes underwater vision possible. Beyond that basic function, the characteristics that matter most for technical diving are internal volume, skirt fit and seal quality, and field of view. Low internal volume reduces the gas needed for mask equalisation and clearing; a correctly fitting skirt seals reliably for the duration of long decompression dives; and an unobstructed downward field of view allows gauge reading and equipment monitoring without head tilting.
Frameless Masks
The Frameless Tek (36 €, SKU 30500K/P/B) is a compact frameless mask available in black, pink, and blue. No rigid frame means the mask folds flat — it fits into a thigh pocket, BCD cargo pocket, or suit cuff pocket as a backup mask. The internal volume is minimal. This is the standard backup mask choice for overhead environment diving.
The Futura (36 €, SKU 33500K/B) is a second frameless option in black and blue, with a slightly different lens geometry. The Shadow Frameless is available in two strap configurations: the Shadow Frameless sil. (46 €, SKU 305100) with a standard silicone split strap, and the Shadow Frameless bungy (42 €, SKU 305110) with a bungee retainer strap. The bungee variant is preferred by many technical divers for backup mask use — the elastic retention makes one-handed donning faster under stress. The Shadow Frameless represents the most recent addition to the mask range (added January 2026).
Framed Masks
The Larga (44 €, SKU 303700) is a wide-view framed mask available in five colours (black, blue, pink, yellow, white) — the broadest colour selection in the range. A wide lens geometry provides an expansive horizontal field of view. The Larga NEW (34 €, SKU 303705) is a revised Larga variant at a lower price point. The Corona (43 €, SKU 30380/K,W) is a compact framed mask in black and white with a lower-profile frame geometry. The Excel NEW (41 €, SKU 30261/K,W,B) is a three-colour framed mask with a revised lens angle for improved downward sightlines.
The Magica (37 €, SKU 334000) is a single-lens framed mask — panoramic single-pane lens providing a wide, uninterrupted view without the central bridge of a twin-lens design. Single-lens masks cannot be fitted with prescription corrective lenses, but the panoramic view is preferred by some divers.
The Metal (50 €, SKU 331600) is the premium technical mask in the range, featuring an anodised aluminium frame in place of the standard plastic frame. The aluminium frame is resistant to UV degradation and provides a rigid, precise lens positioning. The Metal is the highest-priced mask in the range and is aimed at technical and professional divers for whom equipment appearance and material durability are priorities.
What to Look For
- Primary vs. backup function: For primary use, any of the framed masks (Larga, Corona, Excel, Metal) or framed-profile frameless masks (Shadow Frameless) provide a comfortable fit for extended wear. For backup, the Frameless Tek or Futura fold flat and are the most compact options. The Shadow Frameless bungy is a good compromise — it is frameless enough to fold, and the bungee strap makes emergency donning fast.
- Skirt fit before volume: The best low-volume mask in the range is worth nothing if the skirt does not seal on your face. Test each mask by placing it against your face without the strap and inhaling gently through the nose — the mask should stay in place from suction alone. Any mask that requires strap tension to seal will leak on the dive.
- Colour variants: Skirt colour (black vs. clear/white) affects peripheral vision — black silicone skirts block side light and improve focus on what is directly ahead; clear skirts provide a more open feel but may increase glare sensitivity. Most technical divers prefer black skirts.
- Metal mask for professional use: The anodised aluminium frame is more resistant to long-term UV degradation than plastic but is heavier. For instructors and divemasters who are in the water daily, the Metal’s durability may justify the 50 € price premium over the plastic-frame options.
Maintenance and Care
Rinse with fresh water after every dive. Avoid touching the inside surface of the lens — skin oils leave a film that promotes fogging. Store in a hard protective case or box that prevents the skirt from being compressed or deformed. Do not leave masks in direct sunlight or in a hot vehicle — sustained UV and heat damage silicone skirts and can warp lens frames over time. Before the first use of any new mask, clean the inside of the lens with non-gel toothpaste or a dedicated lens prep product to remove the factory anti-release coating that causes persistent fogging — this step is essential and not a substitute for anti-fog solution on subsequent dives.
FAQ
What is the difference between Shadow Frameless bungy and Shadow Frameless sil.?
Both are the same frameless mask body — the difference is the strap. The bungy variant (305110, 42 €) uses an elastic bungee retainer that stretches over the head without adjustment. The sil. variant (305100, 46 €) uses a standard silicone split strap with a buckle-adjust system. The bungee strap is faster to don one-handed and is often preferred for emergency backup mask use; the silicone strap allows more precise positioning and is preferred by divers using this as a primary mask.
Why does my new mask keep fogging?
New masks have a release agent or anti-stick film applied to the lens interior during manufacture. This film prevents anti-fog solutions from bonding to the glass and causes persistent condensation. Remove it before the first use: apply a small amount of non-gel white toothpaste to the inside of the dry lens, rub gently for 30–60 seconds, then rinse thoroughly. Repeat if fogging persists on the first dive. After this initial prep, standard anti-fog solution or a defog rinse before each dive will keep the lens clear.
Can I get prescription lenses for these masks?
Corrective lens inserts or bonded prescription lenses are available for most twin-lens framed masks — the Corona, Larga, Excel, and Metal are all candidates. The Magica single-lens mask does not accept prescription inserts due to its single-pane design. Frameless masks (Frameless Tek, Futura, Shadow Frameless) typically cannot accept prescription lenses. Contact Sopras Tek service or a specialist optical dive equipment supplier for prescription lens availability for a specific mask model.
