Weight pockets

Integrated weight pockets and trim ballast systems for BP/W BCDs. Unlike a weight belt, these pockets attach directly to the backplate or harness — distributing ballast closer to the diver’s centre of mass and allowing more precise trim adjustment than a belt allows. Options range from small trim pockets holding 1–2 kg for fine adjustment to full integrated weight systems replacing the weight belt entirely.

Weight Pocket Types

Trim weight at the lower back is the most common ballast positioning need in technical diving — it corrects the head-down trim that results from heavy drysuit legs or thick undersuit. The Weight pockets for hard plate (240313/4) and Weight pockets for plate with screws (230980) bolt directly to the lower section of the backplate — the screw-mounted variant provides a more permanent attachment that does not shift under load. The Weight pocket 2kg (24030C) is a small soft pocket for 2kg of lead — typically used as a single trim weight at the lower back without a full integrated weight system. The Weight pocket vertical (24030B) mounts the ballast vertically along the backplate rather than horizontally across the lower back, which suits certain body proportions and backplate geometries. The Weight pocket small with glider (240306/K,W,P,B,KE) uses a tri-glider attachment to the harness shoulder strap — placing trim weight at the upper back for divers who are foot-heavy rather than head-heavy. Available in multiple colours and Kevlar fabric. The Weight pocket for cylinder strap (240312) and Weight pocket for double tank (230990) position ballast on the cylinder cam band — useful for corrections that require weight at a specific location along the cylinder axis rather than on the harness. The Tank stabilizer w weight pockets Hard plate (901406) and Tank stabilizer w weight pockets Soft plate (901407) combine cylinder stabilisation (preventing the tank from rotating on the backplate) with integrated weight pockets — two functions in one component. The Cylinder straps weight pockets (901409) serve the same function via cylinder straps rather than a hard plate. The Waist weight pocket (230101/B,R) mounts to the waist webbing for lateral trim adjustment at hip level. The Twin tank tail pouch (230991) adds ballast at the bottom of a doubles configuration — for divers whose trim is foot-light due to buoyant bootie or fins.

What to Look For

  • Identify the trim problem first — are you head-down, foot-down, or listing laterally? The correct weight pocket placement depends entirely on where the ballast is needed, not on which product is most popular.
  • Backplate compatibility for screw-mounted pockets — the plate-mounted pockets (240313/4, 230980) require specific hole patterns on the backplate. Verify that your backplate has the correct lower bolt configuration before ordering.
  • Lead capacity vs. adjustment range — small trim pockets (1–3 kg) are for fine adjustment on a diver who is already close to correct trim. If you require more than 4 kg of trim weight in one position, consider whether a different exposure suit or cylinder configuration is the more appropriate fix.
