Waist and cylinder buckles

Waist belt buckles and cylinder cam buckles for technical diving BCD harnesses and tank straps. These are the primary quick-release and adjustment fittings on the waist webbing of BP/W harnesses and on cam bands securing cylinders to backplates. Material — stainless steel, aluminium — determines weight, buoyancy contribution, and corrosion resistance.

Buckle Types and Applications

The Stainless steel buckle (804500) and Stainless steel belt buckle deluxe (80450T) are standard waist belt buckles for BP/W harness webbing. The deluxe variant includes a secondary locking tab that prevents accidental opening under load. The Alu buckle 50mm (804510/2) provides the same function in aluminium — lighter and marginally positive in buoyancy terms, suitable for warm-water diving where minimising system weight is a priority. The Spring loaded weight buckle (804520) incorporates a spring mechanism that pre-loads the buckle closed, preventing the tongue from disengaging without deliberate pressure — used on weight pocket straps and waist webbing where positive retention is required. The Quick adjust belt buckle (240371) allows length adjustment on the waist belt without fully opening the buckle — useful for drysuits where waist circumference changes with undersuit thickness. Cam buckles — Cam buckle (90030R/K), Cam buckle alu 50mm (900324), Cam buckle stainless steel (900320/2) — are used on tank straps and cam bands to secure cylinders to the backplate. The cam mechanism locks under load and releases by pressing the cam lever. Stainless steel cam buckles are preferred for salt water; the aluminium 50mm cam buckle is the lightest option for travel configurations.

What to Look For

  • Webbing width compatibility — all buckles here are designed for 50mm webbing, which is the standard BP/W harness width. Verify that any replacement buckle matches the webbing width of your harness or cam band.
  • Material vs. environment — stainless steel for salt water and extended use; aluminium for travel weight reduction. Both materials require post-dive fresh water rinse to prevent salt crystallisation in the cam mechanism.
  • Cam buckle load direction — cam buckles are directional — they lock when loaded in one direction and release in the other. Install cam buckles with the cam mechanism oriented so that cylinder weight loads the cam into the locking position, not the release position.
